Monet’s Ecology is the first exhibition to investigate Claude Monet’s (1840–1926) relationship with ecology and the environment. The artist’s connection with nature became increasingly deep and complex throughout his career. Such tie would reach its peak in the final phase of his work, produced in Giverny, a town in the French countryside where he conceived his famous gardens. This catalog accompanies the exhibition held at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP), exploring Monet’s radical engagement with the natural world, framing his work in an ecological perspective, highlighting its contem- poraneity with important scientific advances of the time, in addition to positioning him at the forefront of ecological awareness.
